He added that the case was registered after objectionable posts and videos appeared on social media on the Internet.
“In one of the alleged videos, a man allegedly threatened violence if the 14 convicts were not released within 10 days. In another, a woman allegedly made collective statements against the judge and warned that she would face consequences on judgement,” Paraskar said, adding that efforts were on to identify the accused in the case.

The threats emerged after Attorney General Khan, on June 12, convicted 14 men in a mass lynching case linked to alleged cattle smuggling. The court convicted them of premeditated murder, attempted murder, rioting and unlawful detention, and sentenced them all to life imprisonment.
The case dates back to August 3, 2022, when a truck carrying 30 head of cattle heading to a fair in Amravati, Maharashtra, was stopped near Parakhad village in Seoni Malwa. A mob allegedly assaulted the three passengers with sticks and iron rods, killing Nazir Ahmed. Police said the attack was carried out by villagers who call themselves cow vigilantes. Later, an alleged video of the incident went viral on social media.

Speaking on the issue, Congress leader Pawan Khera criticized the government’s response, saying: “Usually immediate action is taken against those who spread hatred, but in Modi’s India, hate mongers are roaming freely. The cyber cell is not taking punitive action. It is just sending notices.”
“Police have already taken suo motu cognizance and registered a case. Strict action will be taken against the accused,” BJP spokesperson Hitesh Bajpai said.
