The scenario is inspired by a history book Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem, and the Lives of Irish Immigrant Women Written by Eileen Farrell and Leanne McCormick and developed with support from Queen’s University Belfast. It is produced with the support of Northern Ireland Screen. The book was chosen by Peppiatt and his companions Patella Produced by Trevor Burney in 2025.
The book looked into the world of a group of Irish immigrant women who were considered troublemakers, and highlighted that for a period, Irish women outnumbered Irish men in prison. The project was one of the best-selling titles on the US film market last fall.
Bad Bridgets Filming will begin on location in Northern Ireland and Ireland in mid-July.
