Amid the ongoing controversy over alleged misappropriation of funds at the Ram temple, a high-level Congress delegation will visit Ayodhya on Tuesday and will visit the shrine.

The delegation will be led by party’s Uttar Pradesh unit president Ajay Rai, and includes MPs Kishori Lal Sharma (Amethi), Rakesh Rathore (Sitapur), Ajwal Raman Singh (Prayagraj) and Tanuj Punia (Barabanki), according to a Congress statement.

However, in another statement issued late on Monday evening, the opposition party said that Rai has been placed under house arrest at a hotel in Ayodhya.

Former Barabanki MP SP Gautam, former MLC Deepak Singh, Maharajganj MLA Virendra Chaudhary and former Barabanki MLA Mita Gautam will also be with the delegation.

Congress informed the local administration of the proposed visit.

Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Minister Dayashankar Singh said that opposition leaders do not believe in Lord Ram, have never visited the temple in Ayodhya, nor participated in its construction and yet are questioning people who have given up “family life to serve the nation”.

“These are the people who do not believe in Lord Ram. Some of them do not even accept his existence. They have never gone for darshan of Lord Ram. Have the detractors ever visited the Ram temple? Did they contribute to its construction?” asked Singh while speaking to PTI.
