Who is Jagan Gurjar?

Jagan Gurjar was one of the most feared robbers in the Champal district, with his criminal network operating for years across the valleys of the Dholpur Dang district. A native of Rajasthan’s Dholpur district, he has built a reputation as a notorious outlaw with a long history of violent crimes.

Criminal history of Jagan Dacoit

Gurjar entered the world of crime in 1994, according to PTI. He was first arrested in 2001, and has been arrested several times over the years.

He was repeatedly released on bail before being returned to custody in various cases.

Nearly 100 criminal cases were registered against him Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were mentioned earlier.

The charges against him included murder, banditry, robbery, extortion, kidnapping, and crimes under the Arms Act.

Jagan Gurjar’s rise to fame

Gurjar rose to national prominence during the 2008 Gurjar sanctuary disturbances, when he allegedly threatened to blow up Dholpur Palace, the residence of then Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, according to an HT report.

At some point, the police announced a reward $11 lakh for information leading to his arrest, making him one of the most wanted robbers in Chambal district.

After years on the run, Gurjar surrendered before Inspector General of Police Malini Agarwal in Bayana on August 19, 2018.

In February 2022, Gurjar was arrested in another case after he threatened to kill the former Congress MLA Giriraj Malinga, according to PTI.

Suspicious death in prison

At the time of his death, Gurjar was being held in a maximum security prison in Ajmer, Rajasthan. He was found dead inside his barracks on Monday.

According to investigators, the incident is believed to have occurred between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the prisoners were locked inside their barracks. He was found dead during a routine inspection after the barracks was opened.

His cellmate, Vishnu, an accused in the Kuldeep Jaghina murder case, was present in the barracks and was interrogated by investigators.
