John Oliver usually appears on late night television, but the Last Week Tonight host has long had a desire to appear on daytime television.
Later this week, he will.
Oliver will appear in an “important” guest role for three episodes on ABC General Hospitalrevealed in Sunday’s episode. Its first appearance is scheduled to be broadcast on Thursday, and its other episodes will be shown on Friday and Monday, July 6.
The role came about after Oliver asked to be cast in a daytime soap “last week tonight”March 8th episode. After noting that Stephen A. ESPN’s Smith has made sporadic appearances General Hospital For years, Oliver said: “For all the soap operas out there, let me say this: I’m officially introducing myself to you. Write me a role, and I’ll be on your set so fast, it’ll make your head spin.”
He also said that he didn’t want to play himself, but rather a character with a “silly” name and that “I want to do something exciting, like kill, or slap, or slap, or be something that someone lost a long time ago.” Watch full Last week tonight Part from March below.
A few weeks after the above clip was posted live on Instagram, General Hospital’“You’re welcome to Port Charles anytime. Our DMs are open,” the Instagram account commented.
It remains to be seen what Oliver’s role will be. Based on the photo at the top of this story, he’s not playing himself, as his hair is dyed black and he’s wearing a monochromatic suit and tie, which likely indicates that his character means business.
“When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to be on a series, we didn’t hesitate for a moment,” Frank Valentini, executive producer of General Hospital, said in a statement. “He was everything you’d hope he would be: poised, professional, funny, and really nice to everyone on set. He plays an integral role in the story, and I can’t wait for fans to see who he gets to meet inside Port Charles.”
