After the huge success of ‘Hum Paanch’ in 1980, he took another bold step and launched his younger brother Anil Kapoor in his second production ‘Woh 7 Din’ in 1983. How did Boney Kapoor meet director Babu for Woh 7 Din?
In a candid conversation with Variety India, Boney was asked about how he first collaborated with director Babu for the film Woh 7 Din. The producer shared a fascinating and detailed description of how the film came to be, revealing that it was by no means a straightforward ride. “After Hum Paanch, we formed a good bond,” he recalls.
I used to visit Chennai often because I wanted to make my next film with him. During discussions, we came up with the idea of creating a love story.
She didn’t get to the script even after working on it for a few months. We worked hard for it, but it didn’t really interest us. Babu was then offered the Telugu production, a remake of the 1981 Tamil film Andha 7 Naatkal directed by the late K. Bhagyaraj. He invited me to accompany him to see some reels. There is still some work to be done. At that time, there were no plans to remake the film in Hindi. After watching the film, I told Babu that he should make it in Telugu, so he started working on it. I couldn’t get past the movie. I wanted to buy the rights to the Hindi version, but Bhagyaraj was not keen on giving it up, as his film ‘Ek Hi Bhool’ with Jeetendra and Rekha had just become a huge hit and perhaps he was waiting for better prospects.
But in the end, I convinced him to let me remake Andha 7 Naatkal in Hindi.”
