The focus has been on the role of the ‘Mittal family’ in reconciling Siya Goyal and Ketan Agrawal after the latter was murdered by his fiancée and her lover, Chetan Chaudhary, at Lohagad Fort near Lonavala in Pune.
Police are still investigating the exact motive behind the alleged murder. However, officials said that Siya did not want to marry Ketan and was in a relationship with Chetan for more than a year.
Narendra Mittal and Renu Mittal, Sia’s relatives who helped bring the two families together for the marriage, expressed shock over the allegations against their niece, NDTV reported.
The role of the “Mittal Family” in reconciling Siya and Ketan
Like the rest of Goyal’s extended family, Mittal’s family said they had no idea about Sia’s relationship with Chetan when they helped arrange her marriage to Ketan.
As part of the investigation, Narendra Mittal appeared before the police and said he never imagined that Siya could be involved in such a crime.
“We never expected Siya to be able to do something like this. Both Siya and Ketan were well-mannered, humble and good-natured,” he said, according to NDTV.
“We have known Sia since childhood. We never dreamed that she could do something like this,” he added.
Mittal told police that talks between the two families regarding Sia and Ketan’s marriage began in January 2026.
The couple got engaged in February, and their November wedding is planned for later this year.
Mittal said that his participation was only to introduce the two families and help them meet to discuss marriage, according to the report.
Pune Fort Murder Case
On Friday, police questioned Sia Goyal’s parents, Praveen Goyal and Pooja Goyal, along with her brother Sahil Goyal, at Lonavala police station.
News agency PTI reported that Sahil was interrogated for nearly 10 hours regarding his sister’s relationship with Chetan Chaudhary.
Siya Goyal remains in police custody for seven days until June 29 as the investigation continues.
Vishal Agarwal, Ketan Agarwal’s father, said that his son was killed for no reason and he did nothing to deserve this end. He also demanded the death penalty for the accused.
Sia (20) and her lover Chetan Chaudhary (22) are accused of pushing Ketan off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18. Police said Sia did not want to marry Ketan, which prompted her and Chetan to plan and carry out the murder.
