After the government released the names of six military personnel who died during Operation Sindoor last year, the Opposition criticized the Center over Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s speech in Parliament on the subject last year.

The names of the six military personnel, five from the army and one from the IAF, have been engraved on a wall at the National War Memorial, in honor of the fallen heroes. This represents the first official public acknowledgment of the deaths incurred by the Indian Armed Forces during the operation.

While the Congress shared Rajnath Singh’s statements in which he claimed that no Indian soldier was injured during Operation Sindoor, it criticized the government for what it termed as “misleading the nation and concealing martyrdom from the nation”.

Following the Opposition’s attack on Singh’s remarks, the Defense Ministry clarified Singh’s statement and said that the Opposition was deliberately ignoring the full context of the remarks.

“Some posts circulating on social media platforms sought to misrepresent Raksha Mantri’s speech delivered before Parliament on July 28, 2025. These posts selectively quoted an isolated portion of the speech to falsely suggest that Raksha Mantri claimed that no Indian soldier lost his life during Operation Sindur. These are deliberately misleading and factually incorrect,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“Those who sought to stir controversy out of his Raksha Mantri parliamentary speech did so by deliberately ignoring the full context of his statements,” the statement added.

Clarifying Rajnath Singh’s statement, the ministry said the minister’s speech sought to clarify the prevailing narrative that Indian pilots died during Operation Sindoor.

“In direct reference to this specific and harmful narrative, Raksha Mantri made the statement in question. Thus, his statements were a targeted and contextually specific response to the falsehood that was gaining dangerous momentum at that moment,” the statement said.

What Rajnath Singh said before

On July 28, while speaking in the Lok Sabha, Rajnath Singh said that no Indian soldiers were harmed during Operation Sindoor.

“If you want to ask the question, ask whether any of our brave soldiers were hurt in this operation? The answer is, no, none of our soldiers were hurt,” he said during the 16-hour discussion.

The Congress shared the video from last year saying, “The nation will not forgive Narendra Modi.” However, the Ministry of Defense has now clarified that Rajnath Singh’s statements were distorted in the clip that is now going viral.

Congress leader Manish Tiwari said that if there are some other facts, the government should put them squarely on the Parliament table during the next monsoon session.

“@rajnathsingh ji during the discussion on Operation Sindhoor said that no harm was done to any Indian soldier during Operation Sindhoor. Was he oblivious to the facts when he addressed Parliament? After 13 months, the government released the names of six soldiers killed during Operation Sindhoor, namely Major Subedar Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Murali Naik, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, and …

Congress leader Pawan Khera wondered whether Rajnath Singh was not aware of the facts or chose to mislead Parliament despite knowing the truth.

“Either Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was not aware, when addressing Parliament, that six soldiers had already been martyred. If so, it raises a serious question mark over the Minister, who lacks knowledge of the very ministry he leads. Or he knew the truth and yet chose to mislead Parliament. This is more serious, because it proves that this government is lying to the nation – oath and all – in the temple of democracy. Whatever may be true, some facts remain unchanged.” He said good.
