Two 12-year-old boys died and eight others were injured after part of the roof of a house collapsed in Lucknow, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place around 10.15 pm on Friday at Bakharia locality of Mohana under Itunga police station limits, when people were being served drinks from the rooftop during a Muharram procession. The structure suddenly collapsed, trapping many people under the rubble, according to a police statement.

Police rushed to the spot and shifted all the injured to the 100-bed Combined Hospital at Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT).
Doctors announced the death of the two children, Ali (12 years old), son of Qasim, and Arman (12 years old), son of Imran, both of whom were residents of Muhanna, during treatment.

Five of the injured were referred to the Trauma Center of King George’s Medical University after their condition was found to be serious.
Two injured boys were discharged from the hospital after receiving first aid, while another injured person, Roseda, daughter of Liaquat Ali, is still receiving treatment at PKT Hospital.

Senior police officers arrived at the scene and supervised the rescue operation.
