Ontario launches three new PR tracks: Good news for self-employed doctors

Ontario announces three new PR tracks.

Public Relations News Canada: Ontario has announced an overhaul of its provincial nomination programs, adding three new paths to becoming a permanent resident. In Canada, each province sets its own eligibility criteria for citizenship, while the federal government runs several nationwide PR programs.

Provincial programs also grant permanent residency to individuals in the same way through Express Entry, but when a province nominates someone for PR, they are only supposed to work in that province.On June 26, the Province of Ontario announced new PR tracks

  1. TEER Track 0–3 – for workers in highly skilled occupations.
  2. TEER Track 4–5 – for workers in low-skilled occupations.
  3. Self-Employed Physicians – For registered physicians who are eligible to be billed through the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

Bird 0-3

  • Applicants must have a permanent full-time job offer with an eligible Ontario employer in a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupation.
  • Obtaining a post-secondary qualification, from a program that requires at least one year of study on a full-time basis.
  • Meet the minimum language proficiency requirements, in English or French, associated with their profession: either Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6 or CLB 5.

Bird 4-5

  • This track is intended for foreign nationals with job offers in professions that typically require only a high school education and/or several weeks of on-the-job training.
  • Obtain a permanent, full-time job offer from an eligible Ontario employer in a TEER 4 or 5 occupation, paying at least the average occupation wage.
  • Have at least nine months of cumulative work experience within the past two years in the same position, with the same employer making the qualifying job offer in Ontario.
  • Must have a high school diploma, or its equivalent.
  • Get at least CLB 4 in English or French.

Requirements for the Self-Employed Doctors Pathway

Be licensed and in good standing as a physician in Ontario, with a valid certificate of registration as an independent, academic or provisional practitioner.Be eligible to be billed through OHIP.
