A statement issued by the office of Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar announced the appointment on Friday. She added that the conditions governing the appointment will be issued separately.

Narayana was one of the producers who supervised the making of ‘Jana Nayagan’, which has been called the swan song of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s acting career. In May, Narayana was seen accompanying Vijay and other senior party colleagues to meet Governor Rajendra Arlikar at Lok Bhavan and demand formation of the government.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) deputy general secretary ‘Tiruchi’ Seva said the appointment of a person from Karnataka to the post in question was shocking. “The question that arises is whether he will stand up, represent and vote for the issue of Mukkedatu Dam for the benefit of Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minister loudly declared on the Assembly floor that his government will not succumb to Karnataka’s stand of building a new dam at Mukedatu across the Cauvery river which will greatly impact the livelihood of farmers in the delta region,” Siva noted.

“How can a person who has no connection with Tamil Nadu at all be appointed to such a crucial post which is supposed to act as a bridge between the central government and the Tamil Nadu government?” he asked. BJP state president Nainar Nagendran said.
