Lionel Richie has postponed his next two concerts after falling ill during his opening concert in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The singer had to sit down while “dancing on the ceiling” and said he was feeling dizzy before walking off stage, according to fan videos from the show. He was able to perform “Three Times a Lady” before exiting the stage. After about 40 minutes, the concert came to an abrupt end when Richie’s saxophonist told the audience that Richie “wouldn’t be able to continue,” according to The Verge. Minnesota Star Tribune.
Ritchie was also taken to hospital after the St Paul’s incident, TMZ It has been reported, but only as a precaution. And now Ritchie’s Friday show in Chicago and Saturday show in Columbus, Ohio, have been postponed, according to a statement from the United Center in Chicago.
The United Center added that doctors advised Richie to “rest and return to full health.” The United Center post adds that there is no set date yet for the rescheduled shows, but new dates will be announced soon.
Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire are scheduled to resume their Sing a Song All Night Long tour on Tuesday in Pittsburgh, the United Center website continued, adding that Richie is “deeply saddened by the postponement of these two shows and can’t wait to get back to performing in front of his fans.”
Earth, Wind and Fire drummer John Paris told Star Tribune that Richie was “a little dehydrated” but did not notice any health issues before the show.
Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire’s North American tour continues throughout the summer, with the final show scheduled for August 14 in Austin, Texas.
