Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ was a record success at the box office, ending its theatrical run with a global gross of over Rs 3,300 crore. The action spectacle, headlined by Ranveer Singh, has emerged as the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time, behind only Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’.
While the film’s track record remains intact at the moment, trade analyst and exhibitor Vishek Chauhan believes that Nitish Tiwari’s upcoming epic ‘Ramayana’ has the potential to surpass it.Chouhan reflected on the massive success of ‘Dhurandhar’ and credited its broad commercial appeal for resonating with audiences across demographics.“When you make a film that has all the emotions, every element, all the genres, you will reap great results, and an example of that is – Dhurandhar.
He’s sitting there. It has all the masala ingredients, everything together. Dhurandhar is great, just phenomenal. People say that Part 2 was weaker than Part 1, but Part 2 was classic commercial filmmaking, and it was improved a few notches higher.Praising Aditya Dhar’s execution, Chauhan said the film reminds him of great artistes of an earlier era.
“It was absolutely amazing. When I was watching it, I knew the film was going to break records, it is fire. This film is unstoppable, you can’t say when it will stop. It has a great sensitivity. It made me remember the filmmaking of Rakesh Roshan and Manmohan Desai. There was satisfaction in killing the villain as well, and the audience gets catharsis from such things.”However, despite his admiration for Dhurandhar, Chouhan believes Ramayana is the only film that can set a new benchmark at the box office.“The hype is very good. It is a subject that is very close to people’s hearts. The way Ranbir looks and the kind of stars in the film – including Sunny Deol and Yash, the director is also good. So, I have no doubt that the film will break records. And if this film is able to land, you will see that it will break Dhurandhar’s record. The scope of this film is crazy. People will come to cinemas from everywhere, even from villages.”

According to Chauhan, the film’s potential far exceeds traditional box office expectations, provided it connects with audiences emotionally.“It will work on a different level. All he has to do is land it right and connect with the audience. Like Adipurush he couldn’t connect with people. He missed the mark. But still, it had an amazing opening, around Rs 35 crore in Hindi. So, I feel the sky is the limit for Ramayana.”
