Eligible Filipino travelers can now obtain a UAE visa on arrival, facilitating entry and boosting tourism / Photo – File
Thousands of Filipino travelers now have an easier way to enter the UAE.Effective June 25, eligible Philippine passport holders can obtain a UAE visa on arrival instead of applying for a visa before travelling.
The move, announced by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, is expected to make travel more convenient for tourists, business visitors and families, while reflecting the growing ties between the UAE and the Philippines. The announcement comes as the UAE remains home to one of the largest Filipino communities in the world, with approximately one million Filipinos living and working across the Emirates. Officials said the new arrangement was introduced in recognition of the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries.
UAE visa on arrival for Filipinos
The new policy does not automatically apply to all Filipino travelers. To qualify, travelers must hold a Philippine passport and also possess a valid visa, residence permit, or green card issued by one of the following countries:
- US
- Member states of the European Union
- Australia
- Japan
- Singapore
- South Korea
- Canada
- New Zealand
Travelers must present these documents upon arrival in the UAE along with their Philippine passport. Immigration authorities will then assess eligibility and issue a visa on arrival in accordance with standard entry requirements.
Explanation of UAE visa rules
Eligible travelers will have two options to obtain a visa upon arrival in the UAE.The first is a 14-day entry visa on arrival at a cost of 100 dirhams. This visa can be extended once for an additional 14 days by paying an extension fee of AED 250.The second option is to obtain a visa on arrival for 60 days at a cost of 250 dirhams. However, this longer visa cannot be extended under current rules. The new arrangement gives travelers greater flexibility depending on whether they are visiting for a short vacation, a family trip or a longer stay.
Why is the new entry rule into the UAE important?
The Visa on Arrival feature removes one of the biggest hurdles many Filipino travelers face: obtaining a UAE visa before departure.Instead of completing a separate visa application process in advance, eligible travelers can now complete immigration procedures after landing in the UAE. Officials believe the change will encourage more tourism, business travel and family visits between the two countries. The Department of Foreign Affairs described the decision as a reflection of the “excellent bilateral relations” between the Philippines and the UAE, highlighting the growing people-to-people and economic ties that bind the two countries.
What should you do?
While the new system simplifies the entry process, travelers are still advised to prepare all necessary documents before boarding their flight.Passengers must ensure:
- Their Philippine passport is valid.
- The foreign visa, residence permit or green card remains valid.
- Supporting travel documents are readily available for inspection.
- They understand whether they need a 14-day or 60-day stay option.
Immigration officials reserve the authority to conduct standard checks before granting entry, meaning travelers must check that all documents meet current requirements before departure.
What’s the next step?
The introduction of visa on arrival represents one of the most significant changes in travel policy for Filipinos visiting the UAE in recent years. With easier entry procedures, flexible accommodation options and strong travel demand between the two countries, the measure is expected to benefit tourists, business travelers and the large Filipino community that already calls the UAE home. With the entry into force of this policy, the two governments hope that it will strengthen the already close relationship built on decades of economic and cultural relations.
