As the investigation into the death of 25-year-old Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal continues, police said the accused, Sia Goyal, wanted to call off her engagement with Agarwal. The police added that Ketan continued to pursue her relationship with Goyal despite her objections.
20-year-old Sia Goyal and her alleged boyfriend, 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, have been accused of planning Ketan Agarwal’s murder. Agarwal was with Goyal on the Lohagad Fort tour in Pune, when she allegedly pushed him off a cliff.
“I want to break off the engagement.”
As HT reported earlier, during custodial interrogation, Sia told the police that she was unhappy with her engagement with Ketan Agarwal.
Sia told cops from Pune Rural Police that she had informed Ketan that she did not wish to continue the relationship and urged him not to go ahead with the planned marriage.
But she added that Ketan continued to pursue the relationship and remained committed to the wedding preparations despite her objections.
Before her interrogation, the police already suspected that Goyal was unwilling to go ahead with her arranged marriage due to her alleged affair with Chetan Chaudhary.
“Given the societal pressure and her family image, she had no option of escaping with Chetan,” an officer told HT.
Father recalls ‘red flags he ignored’
Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, said, “After the engagement in February, Ketan and Sia met frequently and hung out together. At times, Ketan expressed concerns about Sia, and asked us if we had properly verified her ancestry,” he told HT.
The victim’s father added that the couple often argued over minor issues. He also noted that Sia spent a lot of time on her phone.

Ketan even mentioned Chetan Chaudhary’s name, raising doubts about a possible relationship between the two.
“We thought of delaying the wedding as she was very young, but her parents insisted on going ahead with it as they would not find a partner like my son,” he told HT.
