A 24-year-old woman died by suicide at her marital home in Nangloi area outside Delhi, alleging harassment by her in-laws and her husband’s “instability” to do so.

Police said the woman was found dead at her in-laws’ home on Tuesday afternoon, according to news agency PTI. While no suicide note was recovered from the scene, cops found a three-minute video clip on her mobile phone where she recorded her last message to her parents.

The woman first said: “Daddy, I’m leaving,” before recounting the ordeal she allegedly faced at her in-laws’ home. The 24-year-old was married about two and a half years ago, and was living in Nangloi with her husband, who works in the private sector, and they had a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, PTI reported.

Police said they received information about the suicide on Tuesday, after which they reached the scene. The woman’s body was then sent for postmortem and a case was registered on the basis of statements recorded before the sub-divisional magistrate, according to a PTI report. The matter is being investigated, police said, adding that further action will be taken based on the findings.

“Don’t give it to anyone”: Woman urges parents to take care of their daughter

In the video, in which the 24-year-old is seen crying, she pleads with her parents not to give her daughter to anyone, including her husband and in-laws.

“Please take care of her, don’t give her to anyone. She is your granddaughter,” she is heard saying in the video, India Today reports. She also asked her parents to raise her daughter as their own. The 24-year-old also asked her parents not to fight with anyone over her death, and apologized, saying she had caused them pain.

In the emotional video, the woman said she only wanted a “small family,” adding that she had never “practiced black magic.” “I just wanted a small family. I never practiced any black magic,” she said, while alleging that she was subjected to abuse at her in-laws’ home. The 24-year-old claimed that her husband was unstable and said she could not “live with him anymore,” PTI reported, citing police sources.

She said she made a mistake in marrying, claiming that her husband’s family was “not good.” “I never hit my mother-in-law. I never hit my sister’s husband. I never hit anyone. I was the one who got hit,” she said, according to India Today.
