The victim, 37-year-old Madhav Maitli, owned a PG company on Kasturinagar Main Road where the incident took place at around 6.30pm. The accused were identified as 21-year-old Rakesh and 20-year-old Don Brightson.

“The two accused are friends and were staying in different accommodations of PG. They entered the PG building and started washing their feet in a common tap when the altercation started,” Inspector JG Satish of Ramamurthy Nagar police station said.

Mitley reportedly objected to the act and approached the two men, leading to the assault. Investigators said that he picked up a cricket bat during the fight, but the defendants snatched it from him and beat him repeatedly, leaving him seriously injured. He was taken to a nearby private hospital where he died of his injuries. Police said the body was returned to his family after a post-mortem examination at Whitefield Hospital.

“The accused were pursuing courses in a private college and were in a drunken state when the incident occurred,” Satish said.

The victim was transferred to a nearby private hospital, where doctors were unable to save him.

The inspector added: “We have arrested the accused and are interrogating them. Further investigations are underway.” The case has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act.
