The tense relationship between Arya Babbar and his half-brother Prateik Smita Patil is in the spotlight once again after a clip from Arya’s comedy set went viral online.In the clip, Arya refers to his genitals as ‘chhota bhai’ (younger brother) while discussing depression. He then joked, “And by Chota bhai, I don’t mean Prateik Babbar.”As the audience laughs, Arya immediately corrects herself and says, “Prateik Smita Patil,” sparking applause. Then he adds: “Kya ho raha hai Smita maa.”The actor later shared the video on social media with the caption: “No names were changed while making this joke,” an apparent reference to Prateik’s decision to adopt his late mother Smita Patel’s surname.
“I realized he changed his name.”
Explaining the context behind this comment, Arya insisted that there was no intention to mock his brother.“I talk about Chota Bhai in terms of depression, and at that moment, I just said that Chota Bhai does not mean Prateik Babbar. As soon as I said that, I realized that he has changed his name and he is so sensitive about this thing that he does not want to be called Prateik Babbar. So, I just corrected myself,” Arya explained in an interview with Hindustan Times.
“The world knows that I don’t mention Smita Maa’s name without adding maa, so I said that. For me, it was not a joke. I was just stating a fact, and the audience found humor in it,” he added.

When asked if he would like to mend ties with Prateik, Arya said he was still open to the conversation.He said: “Wo phone Answer kar le, main baat kar lunga. Usne ye medium choose kiya hai ki main apni Family se Seedhe nahin, media ke through baat karunga, to hamare paas bhi koi option nahin bachta.” Arya also questioned the perception that his side of the family is often portrayed negatively.“What I don’t agree with is that Babar Sahab’s first family cannot be the bad guys. Why are you falling victim and calling us bad guys. We are not telling you anything, we accept and respect you, so why are we the bad guys?” He asked.
