An unusual discussion on drinking water arrangements sparked laughter across party lines in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday after DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth made a demand on water supply to members.

During the proceedings, Premalatha suggested serving water to legislators in glass bottles instead of the current arrangement.

Her suggestion drew an immediate response from former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who interrupted, saying: “People will throw bottles at each other when they get angry.”

This remark sparked laughter throughout the House, briefly halting the proceedings and lightening the mood in the Assembly.

In addition to the bottle demand, Premalatha Vijayakanth also objected to Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlikar’s pronunciation of Tamil words and names of Tamil leaders during his address to the Assembly.

In response to the objection, the Speaker of the House of Representatives supported the governor, saying: “We must appreciate his attempt.”

Vijay is 52 years old

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Monday celebrated his 52nd birthday, drawing greetings from leaders from across the political spectrum.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended happy birthday wishes to Vijay and prayed for his long life and wellness.

“Birthday greetings to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay Ji. Praying for his long and healthy life,” PM Modi posted on X.

Former Tamil Nadu CM and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin also wished Vijay’s continued dedication to public service and welfare.

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also extended birthday wishes to Vijay. In his message on X, Gandhi reiterated his solidarity with Vijay in advancing the progress of the country and protecting the rights, dignity and aspirations of the Tamil people.

“Wishing the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Joseph Vijay, a very happy birthday. I wish you good health and success in all your endeavours. I stand with you in defending the rights, dignity and aspirations of the Tamil people, and in working together for the progress of the state,” he said.
