Paris-based production company Good Hero has greenlighted a sequel to its 2016 animated hit Ballerina (aka step!), a family-friendly film about a 19th-century orphan who pursues her dreams of becoming a ballet star in Paris.
Good Hero announced the sequel at the Annecy Animation Film Festival on Monday, saying it was part of a plan to expand the film’s scope Ballerina Franchise across film, television and digital platforms.
Elle Fanning, Dane DeHaan, Nat Wolff, Kate McKinnon, and Carly Rae Jepsen lead the original film’s English voice cast. Its events take place in Paris in 1884. Ballerina The film tells the story of an orphan girl (Fanning) who arrives in the City of Light and dreams of becoming a dancer in the famous Grand Opera House. Jepsen plays a mysterious cleaner and mentor to orphans as she struggles to make her way in the world of ballet. The French-Canadian production used dance choreography modeled on real performances by ballerina Aurelie Dupont, a former Paris Opera star and former artistic director, and fellow dancer Jérémie Bellingard.
The film was an international success, selling in over 100 countries and grossing over $120 million at the worldwide box office.
Production on Ballerina 2 This month, it begins with the direction of Laurent Zitoun, who wrote the screenplay. Olive and Gregory Owanhun, co-founders of Good Hero, are producing. Veteran French studio Gaumont returns as French and international theatrical distributor, with a worldwide release scheduled for late 2029.
Besides the sequel, Good Hero said he is producing a film Ballerina Animated television series, with British writer Andrew Burrell, known for his work on Matt Groening disillusionment And BBC EastEndersworks as a series writer. Burrell previously served as head writer and script editor on the animated series Sasha and Milo And contributed to Danger mouse Reboot.
