An Indian man named Chandan Tayal was arrested on charges of smuggling cocaine from the United States to Canada.
An Indian man was arrested with 60 kilograms of cocaine in Port Huron, Michigan while he was on his way to cross the border into Canada. CBP stopped driver Chandan Tayal at the Bluewater Bridge, and upon searching his vehicle, officials found two suspicious boxes.
Tyal told investigators that the boxes contained wooden pallets and cheese powder being transported from Wisconsin to Brampton, Ontario.55 pieces of cocaine were found wrapped in these two boxes.Tayyal (27 years old) claimed that he saw the company closing the truck, adding that he knew nothing about the boxes of cocaine in which one of the empty packages had been partially opened.The incident occurred in the early hours of June 11.Tayal was arrested and taken into custody as the Marysville Police K9 unit arrived and an officer positively alerted officials to the presence of drugs.The first box contained 25 sealed packages weighing 27.47 kilograms, while 30 additional packages weighing 33.03 kilograms were found in the second box.A total of 60.5 kilograms of cocaine was also seized. Tyal is being held in the St. Clair County Jail as the investigation continues.
