A 22-year-old NEET student died by suicide at his residence in Ghaziabad on Friday, two days before the NEET UG re-examination, scheduled to be conducted on June 21.

The victim, a resident of H-block area in Vijay Nagar, was preparing to take NEET UG examination. He left a video message saying that he had not been able to pass the exam for the past six years, according to police.
The incident was reported to the police on Friday morning, and a team arrived at the victim’s house. He was found dead.
The family said the boy went to his room on Thursday evening and was found dead the next morning.

Police found a video clip from the victim’s phone, which was recorded moments before death.
“In the video recovered from his mobile phone, he said that he had been preparing for NEET examination for the past six years and was unable to clear it. He was suffering from depression,” Upasana Pandey, ACP from Vijay Nagar constituency, told HT. He did not hold anyone responsible for his death.”
In the video, he also showed his study room and said he was “thinking of doing something different today,” NDTV reported. Then the boy pointed toward the noose hanging from the ceiling fan.
“The May exam went well, I was preparing to retake the exam.”
The family told police that the victim had appeared for the NEET UG exam in May and things went well. He was preparing to retake the exam on June 21.
“His family told the police that the deceased went to his room on the first floor where he was studying for hours. They said he had also appeared for the NEET-UG exam in May which went well. He was preparing for the retake,” Dharampal, SHO of Vijay Nagar police station, told HT.

However, police said the death was not linked to the recent leak of the paper. The National Testing Agency on May 12 canceled the NEET-UG exam held on May 3 amid allegations of paper leakage. The re-examination has been rescheduled to June 21.
The re-test is being conducted across 5,440 centers in 551 cities in India and 14 centers abroad. Security measures, including 1,38,560 surveillance cameras and 51,311 jamming devices, have been deployed to ensure there are no violations.
A nationwide mock drill was conducted on June 20 to check all systems, including jammers, CCTV, staff frisking and biometrics.
