The action fantasy sequel brings back many of the fighters from the 2021 reboot and adds Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. The streaming giant describes the film as the next installment in the video game-based franchise. The story pits Johnny Cage alongside the returning fighters as they join forces to stop Shao Kahn’s rule.The series focuses on Mortal Kombat, a long-running martial arts competition that decides the fate of Earth. Outworld, a dangerous world ruled by powerful enemies, wants to merge with Earthrealm. The Earth Warriors must stop that plan by fighting.
Warner Bros. announced May 8, 2026 is the theatrical release date for Mortal Kombat II. The studio’s official page also confirms that the film is available digitally.

Karl Urban plays Johnny Cage, a Hollywood actor and fighter who joins the series in the sequel. The cast also includes Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.Martyn Ford appears as Shao Kahn, while Hiroyuki Sanada returns as Scorpion. The film also brings back familiar characters including Sub-Zero, Raiden, Sonya Blade, Jax, and Liu Kang. The Free Press Journal reported that Part II grossed $129 million worldwide against a production budget of $80 million. She added that critics gave the film mixed reviews, although it received a stronger response than the 2021 version.Benjamin Wallfisch composed the music for “Mortal Kombat II”.
