Indian man jailed for 6 years in UK for rape; Police are hunting two suspects who fled Britain

Nitish Nitish was sentenced to 6 years in prison for rape.

An Indian court has sentenced an Indian man to six years in prison after he admitted raping a woman in Bristol city centre, while police continue their efforts to track down two other suspects who have been charged in connection with the same incident.Nitish Nitish, 20, was sentenced after pleading guilty to rape for assaulting a woman in her 30s in Assembly Lane during the early hours of March 29, the Daily Mail reported. The victim was assaulted at around 3.18am before being assisted by members of the public, who informed police. Officers from Avon and Somerset Police arrived at the scene within minutes.Investigators later identified Nitesh after posting photos of four men they believed were linked to the attack.

He was arrested and later confessed to the crime in court. The court heard that the assault had a devastating impact on the victim’s mental health.“Even though I’m starting to do very well, I don’t want to think about it because it takes me back to that place,” she said in a statement read in court.“What kept me involved in the investigation was also the thought that this could happen to someone else, someone more vulnerable, a young teenage girl,” she said.

The Public Prosecution authorized charges against two other men in connection with the same incident. Police said that both suspects are believed to have left the United Kingdom, and investigations are still underway to determine their whereabouts.Detective Inspector Simone da Costa described Nitsch as a “dangerous sexual predator” and said the victim had shown great courage throughout the investigation.“This crime affected the victim physically, emotionally and mentally in a way that is impossible to adequately explain,” he said.Da Costa added that her support for the investigation was motivated by a desire to protect others from experiencing similar harms.Police said they remain committed to tracking down key suspects and bringing them to court.
