How did Saif Ali Khan get the role in the movie “Cocktail”?

In a recent conversation with Variety India, Saif Ali Khan revealed that the makers had already locked Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty for the film but were struggling to find the male lead. “They had Deepika and Diana, but they couldn’t get a hero to play the role, maybe because Veronica’s role is too delicious,” Saif said, referring to Deepika’s famous character.He also added, “I remember some of the names they asked. I think they asked Imran (Khan) and they asked Ranbir (Kapoor).

And they asked some people, and I said, “Okay, Chal, I’ll do it.” And I think they should all be very thankful for what you did (laughs). This is my story. Yes, because I had so much fun. I love Homi (Adajania). We had a great time doing it.”

Ranbir Kapoor Deepika Padukone also advised against the film

Interestingly, apart from turning down the role himself, Ranbir Kapoor also reportedly suggested that Deepika Padukone should skip the project. However, the actress trusted her instincts and went on to deliver one of the most memorable performances of her career. After the film’s release, fans started calling her ‘Veronica’ instead of Deepika. Ranbir Kapoor later admitted that his judgment about the film was wrong.
