As the mother-daughter duo spoke with PEOPLE magazine, years after the accident that nearly took young Maddie’s life, they touched on the sensitive topic. She detailed what happened to her daughter when she was just 8 years old and fell into a pond with her quad bike.She also shared that while her daughter was in a coma, they called a priest to perform the last rites, which are performed for someone nearing death in the Catholic faith.
She detailed, “He goes in, and she’s physically sitting in all her restraints and tubes, and I’m screaming for the doctors, like ‘Come here now!’ I’ve never seen anything like what’s happening.”She described everything that happened as a “miracle” and said: “I knew she was there and I felt like we were all praying. We had a miracle, and I don’t take it for granted.” Furthermore, the incident also led to the family welcoming another family member.
Maddie had previously asked for a younger sibling, and when she woke up from the coma, the first thing she asked her mother for was a brother. “We always say she went up to heaven to go pick up her little sister,” Spears commented. Ivy, Spears’ youngest daughter, who is now 8 years old, was born in 2018.

The actress revealed that Maddie, who was just 8 years old at the time, was driving an ATV around their Los Angeles home area.
The sharp turn proved fatal for Maddie, who ended up going into the nearby pond. Spears also explained that everyone rushed towards her, but because she was stuck under the ATV, they couldn’t get her out. The authorities were finally able to pull Maddie out of the water; However, the danger is not over yet.She added: “We thought she had died.” Eventually, a firefighter detected her pulse, and she was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Maddie was in a coma for about two days after that. Years after the accident, Maddie has fully recovered and often accompanies her mother to various entertainment events.
