The accident occurred on a newly constructed road in Korbaha area around 10pm on Thursday. The police identified the deceased as Sultan Ali (21 years old), Majarul Sultan (18 years old), and Zubair Hussain (14 years old), all residents of Chirakhundi village who were related to each other.

“They were riding three-wheelers, and locals said the two-wheeler was traveling at high speed when it collided with the truck. All of them died on the spot, and the death was confirmed by doctors at a nearby government hospital,” the officers said.

None of them were wearing helmets. “We are also checking whether they have a driving licence,” officials said. The officer added that the three bodies were sent to forensics, and family members were informed.

Police officers said the truck driver did not flee the scene. An officer said: “He said he tried to avoid the collision but did not have time. We are investigating the matter further.”

According to local residents, high-speed driving has become common, especially at night, and several minor accidents have occurred in recent months on the newly constructed road. A local resident said: “Irresponsible behavior by cyclists and sometimes four-wheel drive drivers here has become a matter of concern, and we are appealing to the police and administration to impose strict rules.”

The state government has been conducting road safety campaigns across Assam since 2016. However, according to the Assam government’s road safety portal, 2,700 to 3,000 people die in road accidents in the state every year. Nearly 15,000 people died in road accidents in Assam between 2020 and 2024, according to the government portal.
