A man has been arrested in Korea’s Chhattisgarh region for assaulting his wife, shaving her head and forcing her to drink urine, police said, after videos of the incident surfaced on social media.

The incident occurred on June 14 in Bandopara village. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered after the videos came to light.

The woman, who is in her mid-30s, filed a complaint on June 15 alleging that her husband, Jitendra Gasia, assaulted her under the influence of alcohol.

The case was initially registered under Sections 85 (cruelty by spouse or relatives), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 296 (obscene acts) and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to officials, the woman did not disclose full details of the incident in her initial complaint.

After videos appeared on social media highlighting the extent of the alleged violation, Section 123 of the BNS Act, which relates to the administration of a noxious, intoxicating or narcotic substance with intent to cause harm, was added to the case.

Speaking to reporters, the woman said that she and Gasia have been married for about 15 years and have four children who currently live with him.

She claimed that her husband suspected her of cheating on her and abandoned her about a year ago, after which she began living with an acquaintance. On June 14, he allegedly arrived at her home and attacked her.

She added: “He tied my hands and feet, assaulted and abused me. He first cut my hair with scissors and then shaved my head with a razor. He forcefully poured urine into my mouth, and also poured a child’s urine on me. He threatened to burn me alive.”

Video clips of the incident show the accused repeatedly slapping and kicking the woman, shaving her head, and smearing a black substance on her face and body. It also appears that her clothes were torn during the assault.

Further investigations are underway.
