Ali Fazal is gearing up for the release of Mirzapur: The Movie, one of the most anticipated projects for fans of the hit crime drama series. In a recent interview, the actor spoke about the decision to bring Mirzapur to the big screen and revealed that the idea initially came as a surprise even to the actors.
“We never imagined a movie would be made.”
Speaking about the transition from a successful web series to a feature film, Ali admitted that the team never expected such a move.“That was a big surprise because we never thought about it. Nothing like this has happened in India before. It’s an experiment we’re doing, and we hope we can bring everyone with us,” he told Pinkvilla. The actor added that the film will revisit the familiar world that audiences have loved since the show debuted.
The original cast returns
Without revealing too many details, Ali hinted that fans can expect to see many familiar faces in the film.“It’s a return to the world we started in. The entire original cast from Season 1 is back. There’s a logic to everything, but I won’t say more than that,” he shared.Ali also clarified that the film is linked to the events of the series and is not a random presentation. “Everything is interconnected. It should be,” he said.
Mirzapur has become a cult phenomenon
Reflecting on the film’s massive success, Ali said that he never imagined that Mirzapur would grow into such a big cultural phenomenon.“Even the first season was an experience for me because I had never played a role like Guddu Bhaiya before. No one had seen me in that avatar. It changed everything radically,” he said.According to the actor, the popularity of the show has far exceeded expectations. “He started acting like a movie.
“It has become too much of a cult.”
How Guddu Bhaiya changed public perception
Ali revealed that fans now strongly associate him with the strong and muscular image of Guddu Bhaiya.“When I go to small towns, people get upset if I don’t look like Godot. They say: ‘I’ve become too skinny.’ What happened?” “They expect me to always look like that character,” he said. The actor believes that this reaction is linked to traditional ideas of masculinity. “People still have this image that a man should look physically imposing, whether he is Sunny Deol or Guddu Bhaiya now.”
The challenge of body transformations
Ali also talked about the physical demands of switching between different roles and body types.“The body changes every year. It depends on your diet, and the transition period is very frustrating. Right now, I am in that transition phase. We recently finished the Mirzapur programme, and it takes a toll. Sometimes it takes six months or more for your body to adapt,” he explained.Mirzapur: The Movie is scheduled to release on September 4, marking the first time that the hugely successful streaming franchise will make its way to the big screen.
