Anya Taylor-Joy joins the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum; To play Sindar Elf Seren - watch

Anya Taylor-Joy has officially joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.The actress, who has worked in many big-ticket film franchises from “Dune” to “Mad Max,” will now head to Middle-earth for the next installment of the beloved fantasy series.

Directed by Andy Serkis, who is also set to reprise his iconic role as Gollum, the film will see Anya play Seren, a Sindar Elf from the Woodland Realm and a trusted agent of King Thranduil, The Hollywood Reporter reports. She is described as a skilled warrior, and is expected to play a major role in the story.Set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies, The Hunt for Gollum is the first new live-action feature film since 2014.

According to reports, the film follows Aragorn and Gandalf as they embark on a quest to track down Gollum in an attempt to uncover important information about the Ring of Bilbo Baggins – the One Ring that would later threaten all of Middle-earth.

Taylor-Joy now joins a cast that includes returning stars of the series, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, and Lee Pace as Thranduil. New additions to the group include Kate Winslet as Marijole, Jamie Dornan as Strider, and Leo Woodall as Halvard.

The film is part of the ever-expanding “Lord of the Rings” universe. A second film is said to be in development titled “The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past,” which will be written by Stephen Colbert alongside Philippa Boyens and Peter McGee. Meanwhile, the hit series “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings of Power” is also scheduled to be released online on November 11, 2026.“The Hunt for Gollum” is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027. The film will clash with “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which is also scheduled to be released on the same day.On the work front, Anya Taylor-Joy will appear in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming film “Dune: Part Three,” scheduled for release on December 18.
