'I played cricket in India': Man who rescued girl who fell from second-floor window in London says fishing skills helped save her

In a heroic act, a man saved a three-year-old girl who was hanging from a second-floor window in London. He revealed that the cricket skills he learned in India helped him achieve the life-saving goal. The accident occurred above a busy shopping street in Ilford, where passers-by saw the young child clinging to the edge of a window several meters from the ground.Mehmet Cecil, a father of two children, rushed to help when he saw the girl in danger. He said his reaction was instinctive. He told Metro UK: “I ran out of instinct. I’m a father of five-month-old twins, and as a father I just had a reaction.”He added: “I was not afraid, I did not think. I am not a hero, I did it like a father who sees a child in trouble.”Jessel later said that his cricket background may have helped him during the rescue: “I played cricket in India, so that probably helped me catch up. I knew I had to focus.”The little girl was wearing a pink jacket and brown pants. She was seen trying hard to pull herself to safety while dangling from the ledge above the pawnbroker’s shop. Footage of the accident and the brave rescue went viral. As the child struggled to hold on, a crowd of people gathered below. Witnesses looked on with concern as emergency services were called.

At one point, a woman appeared from a lower window and shouted at the girl while people in the street waited helplessly.Moments later, Jessel and a D.C. police officer positioned themselves directly beneath the child. When her fist finally relented, the crowd gasped in fear. The girl fell from the ledge but Jessel caught her safely with the help of the police officer. Once secured, it was passed through the lower window to the waiting woman, believed to be her mother.

People watching below began to applaud.Giselle said the child later thanked her for the help: “She didn’t say anything, she just hugged me tight. I’m so happy she could help.”According to the Metropolitan Police, officers were called to the Ilford Highway at 3.23pm after concerns about the safety of a child on a windowsill.
