The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Monday announced the results of the 2026 civil services preliminary examination, with a total of 13,343 candidates having qualified for the main examination.
Initial testing was conducted on May 24.
Last year, 14,161 candidates were shortlisted for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2025 against 1,087 vacancies notified.

Preliminary results 2026
The Civil Services exam is conducted every year in three stages – preliminary, mains and interview/personality test – for recruitment into services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS).
According to the Commission, all eligible candidates will be given a window to submit or update details, including “submitting a fee $200 for admission to Civil Services Examination (Main), 2026 except in the case of fee-exempt candidates. Female Candidates/PwBD/SC/ST”.
Candidates will also have to submit or update the “details of scribe, auxiliary device and question paper in large print (of Main Examination)” and “fill in Cadre Preferences for Civil Services Examination (Main) 2026”, UPSC said.

The facility to fill these details will be available on the UPSC website from June 19 to June 28.
“It may be noted that the Civil Services Examination Rules, 2026 dated February 4, 2026, clearly state that all candidates who qualify for the Civil Services Examination (Main) will have to mandatorily log in to the portal (https://upsconline.nic.in) during this window and update and/or reconfirm their details etc. and submit the application form to enable the Commission to generate e-admit card, failing which such candidates will not be allowed to participate in the further stages of examination,” she said.
Candidates who have already uploaded the required documents and do not have any changes to make will also have to log in and submit the form after verifying their details to generate the e-admit card for the 2026 Civil Services (Main) Examination, the commission said.
Candidates have also been informed that marks, cut off marks and answer keys for Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 will be uploaded on the Commission website only after completion of Civil Services Examination 2026 and Indian Forest Service Examination 2026 i.e. after declaration of final results.
The statement added that applicants can obtain information or clarifications regarding the exam by calling the authority’s call center at 011-40303444 or 24041001 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
