Norton Motorcycles has unveiled the new Atlas GT, revealing the full specifications of the mid-weight adventure motorcycle that is expected to make its way to India in the future.
The British brand, backed by TVS Motor Company, has unveiled the Atlas alongside the road-focused Atlas GT in the UK and European markets. The Atlas GT is powered by a 585 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine with a 270-degree crankshaft. The engine produces 69 horsepower at 9,300 rpm and 57.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and comes with a slipper clutch and a 2-way quick shifter as standard. The motorcycle is built around a high-strength steel trellis frame with the engine acting as a stressed member. Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable KYB components at both ends. The Atlas GT features a 43mm USD front fork with 140mm of wheel travel, while the rear gets a fully adjustable monoshock with hydraulic preload adjustment and 140mm of travel. Braking is handled by dual semi-floating 310mm front discs with radial callipers and a 270mm rear disc.
The Atlas GT rides on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends. It also gets a lower seat height of 815mm compared to the standard Atlas.
One of the biggest features of the Atlas GT is the comprehensive electronics package. The motorcycle features Bosch’s six-axis IMU that enables roll-sensitive ABS, cornering traction control and cornering cruise control. It also comes with bike control, rear slip control and five riding modes: Urban, Rain, Sport, Tour, and Enduro. The technology package includes an 8-inch TFT touchscreen with integrated navigation, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, smartphone integration and Norton Rider app support. Riders can also access ride telemetry, over-the-air software updates, and call and music controls through the system. While Norton is yet to announce an official timeline for its launch in India, the Atlas GT is expected to be among the flagship products for the Indian market, where interest in medium-weight adventure bikes continues to grow.
