Two second-year MBBS students of Gajara Raja Medical College Madhya Pradesh (GRMC), Gwalior, drowned in Tigra Dam on Saturday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Ayush Srivastava of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and Gopal Agarwal of Bina, Sagar.
The State Disaster and Emergency Response Force (SDERF), with the help of police, carried out an 18-hour rescue operation. Agarwal’s body was recovered during the intervening night between Saturday and Sunday, while Srivastava’s body was recovered at around 3 pm on Sunday afternoon.
City Superintendent of Police Krishnapal Singh said, “A group of eight medical students went to Tigra Dam for a picnic. They ventured into the Kachi Bar restricted area, about three kilometers from the boating club. Srivastava and Agarwal had approached the water.”
“The students informed the police that when the two did not return after a while, they began searching. Their shoes and clothes were found on the rocky bank of the dam. The students informed the police on suspicion of drowning,” he said.
Tigra Police launched an all-night search using boats and high-powered lights.
The families of both students have been notified. Agarwal’s relatives arrived in Gwalior on Sunday morning, while Srivastava’s family left Bihar and is expected to arrive later in the day.
