According to police, the deceased, identified as Kapil Ridhu, was a resident of Jind district and was running a gym near Krantikari Chowk in Hansi. “On Thursday, around 5.30 am, Ridhu was conducting a morning exercise session with a group of customers on the stairs outside a row of shops near Fawara Chowk when two men arrived on a motorcycle and fired several shots from close range, hitting Ridhu in the head and back. He collapsed immediately and succumbed to his injuries,” a police officer said.

A woman who participated in the exercise, called Sheikha, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a private hospital in Hisar.

Meanwhile, a social media post by a man who identified himself as Harry Boxer – allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang – claimed responsibility for the killing.

The post alleged that Rideau was a conspirator in the February 2025 shooting incidents in Sheikhupura and Dhani Buria.

Police said Rideau was never named as a defendant in those cases. “The matter is under investigation,” Hansi SP Vinod Kumar said.

He added that Kapil is facing four criminal cases, one assault case, two murder cases and a case under the Arms Act. He was arrested in all these cases and is out on bail.
