Bharatiya Janata Party leader Tai Tajak on Thursday won the Rajya Sabha seat from Arunachal Pradesh unopposed.

Returning Officer Tadar Maina handed over the election certificate to Tajak at the Nokme Namati Hall of the State Legislative Assembly Secretariat after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations expired with no other candidates remaining in the fray.

After the announcement, the election certificate was handed over to the newly elected member and Chief Minister Pema Khandu, congratulating Tajjak, said the veteran leader would carry the aspirations of Arunachal Pradesh to Parliament and serve as a strong voice for the state at the national level.

“Having served the state loyally over the years, he now bears the responsibility of representing the hopes, concerns and aspirations of our people at the national level. His vast experience in public life will undoubtedly strengthen Arunachal Pradesh’s voice in Parliament,” Khandu said.

Describing the elections as a well-deserved achievement, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that Tajak’s tenure in the Senate will contribute meaningfully to the development of Arunachal Pradesh and the country.

A veteran BJP leader, Tajak has been associated with the party for several years and played a key role in strengthening its organizational base in the state. He is considered one of the senior leaders of the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh and has held various responsibilities within the party over the years.

He has roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and is a former president of the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh (2013-2015) and a former advisor to the Prime Minister. He is currently serving as the Patron of Arunachal Shiksha Vikas Samiti, Vidya Bharati State Unit.

With Tajak elected unopposed, the BJP retains its representation from Arunachal Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha.
