Rudraprayag Police remains vigilant to ensure safety of pilgrims and smooth darshan arrangements during Kedarnath Yatra.

Strict measures are being taken against individuals who attempt to disrupt the Hajj or defraud worshipers.
In one recent case, police arrested a man accused of cheating pilgrims by making false promises to dignitaries at Kedarnath temple. According to police, on June 8, Kedarnath police station received information that a person named Chirag, along with his local associates, was luring pilgrims with assurances for VIP darshan.

The alleged accused collected $3,000 each to a group of 10 devotees, and fraudulently obtained the total $30,000.
In response to the complaint, Kedarnath police immediately “arrested” the accused from inside the temple. During the search, the police found… $5,000 in cash is believed to be part of the amount collected from the victims. During interrogation, the accused admitted to carrying out the fraud in cooperation with a local partner.
A case has been registered against the accused at Sonprayag police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
Subsequently, he was produced before the court and, following judicial orders, was remanded in custody and sent to the local jail in Chamoli.
The police stated that efforts are underway to track down the other defendants involved in the case, and investigations are still ongoing.
Police in Uttarakhand have arrested a 31-year-old Himachal Pradesh resident for allegedly posing as a fake IRCTC agent and cheating pilgrims of thousands of rupees by promising darshan to VIPs at Kedarnath Dham, SP Niharika Tomar said.
“On June 8, 2026, the police station at Shree Kedarnath Dham received information about a person claiming to be an IRCTC agent and collecting money from people on the pretext of arranging VIP darshan. Our police took immediate action and after investigation, arrested a man named Chirag, aged 31 years, resident of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, and he has recovered. $SP said: 5000 of it.

“During interrogation, he confessed to posing as a fake IRCTC agent and accusing people $3000 per VIP darshan. He had collected a total $30 thousand from a group of 10 people… It was also found that a local resident was involved in this matter, and an investigation is currently underway. We have arrested Chirag and referred him to court seeking his remand.”
