A fire broke out at a private hospital here late on Wednesday, prompting authorities to evacuate several patients from the damaged ward, police said.

Officials said that fire brigades and police personnel arrived at the scene and the fire was under control within about 30 minutes, adding that the fire broke out on the third floor. (PTI)

They added that no injuries have been reported so far.

The accident occurred at a hospital on Bauta B Road. Smoke was first noticed in the air conditioning duct, and a fire alarm was triggered shortly after.

Police said that patients in outpatient clinics were immediately transferred out of the building, and a female employee fainted due to smoke inhalation during the evacuation.

Officials said that fire brigades and police personnel arrived at the scene and the fire was under control within about 30 minutes, adding that the fire broke out on the third floor.

Six patients who were admitted to the hospital were transferred to a nearby private hospital. Two patients who were scheduled to be discharged were sent home.

Devendra Singh Devda, Mahamandir station officer, said all the patients were safely evacuated and no loss of life was reported.

Chief Fire Officer Jai Singh Chauhan said that preliminary information indicates that a short circuit occurred due to an overload on the air conditioning system. Renovation work was also ongoing on the building.

A detailed investigation will be conducted. He added that preliminary information indicates that the annual electrical safety assessment has not been conducted, adding that the administration will also examine compliance with fire safety standards.
