The famous German film producer Martin Moskowitz (September 5, Vampire, Look who’s back) has been appointed as the new president of the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF). ZFF made the announcement on Wednesday.
Moskowitz will also chair the Board of Directors of the ZFF. He will take up his new position on July 1, replacing current ZFF president Doris Fiala.
“Martin Moskowitz is the ideal president for us because he comes from the creative side of the industry, knows the festival well, and thanks to his extensive network in Munich and Los Angeles, will help us strengthen our presence and relationships in our most important international markets, Germany and the United States,” Christian Jungen, CEO of the Zurich Festival, said in a statement. Synonymous with outstanding cinema and a strong association with awards season.
Moskowitz is best known on the international scene for more than 30 years at Konstantin Film, a small Munich-based company he joined in 1990 and served as chairman from 2014 until 2024. At Konstantin, he oversaw the production of hundreds of films, including most of the crossover success stories of the era outside Germany, such as the Oscar-nominated film. Fall (2004) and Baader-Meinhof Complex (2008) as well as the bulk of Germany’s domestic blockbusters, including the very popular Fuck jo gohti privilege. At Constantine, Moskowitz also produced dozens of feature films, his most famous being Vampire films. In 2022, he received a lifetime “Career Achievement in Film” honor from CinemaCon.
Moskowitz stepped down as president of Konstantin in March 2024, although he continues to work with the company as a producer.
Commenting on his new position at ZFF, Moskowitz said that the festival has, in recent years, “established itself as a permanent event on the European festival calendar. With its clear commitment to high-quality cinema and its close association with the international awards season, it has the potential to grow into a globally recognized brand in the years ahead.” He highlighted ZFF’s industry division, the Zurich Summit, sometimes called the ‘Davos of the film industry’ as a ‘leading platform for the global film business’ that offers ‘great potential for further growth’.
Joining Moskowitz on the ZFF Board of Directors are Claudia Lasser, CEO of Swiss media group Entertainment Programm AG, and Swiss writer/director Sabine Bos (Open season, I’m the keeper). They join current board members Thomas Haughey and Felix E. Müller.
The 2026 Zurich Film Festival takes place from September 24 to October 4. The Zurich summit will be held from September 25 to 27.
