Everyone who has ever worked in Hollywood has now been cast in the Netflix streamer Scooby Doo series, Scooby-Doo: Origins. Okay, that’s a bit of a stretch, but on Wednesday, the streamer announced 15 more cast members for the show — all of them humans, not dogs.
Rusty Schwimmer joins the cast (Home, good gems), Peter Macon (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Orville), Maxwell Simkins (Changing gears, sleeping), Juna Xiao (Home, eyes of Wakanda), Danny Deity (Fugitives, FBI: Most Wanted), Elysee Sanville (72 hours), Alex Islands (Normal with capitol n), Avery Christine Buhl (General Hospital, I’ve never done that before), Pamela Mitchell (1883, Perry Mason), Ross Kimball (Jury duty, masterminds), Sarah Gilbert (Connors), Wayne Everett (Chad Powers, she’s dancing), Suryan Sapkota (Midnight Club, House of Usher), Bruce McGill (lioness, hyphen) And Sherilyn Finn (Twin Peaks, Of Mice and Men).
Netflix on Monday revealed the real-life dog who will play Scooby-Doo — watch the good boy here. This is the first time a real dog has played the role of Scooby-Doo.
Scooby-Doo: Origins It is currently in production in Atlanta and will premiere globally on Netflix in 2027. The previously announced (human) cast includes McKenna Grace as Daphne, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, Maxwell Jenkins as Fred and Paul Walter Hauser.
Netflix also won’t share Howser’s character, so it’s likely a man voicing the dog.
Scooby-Doo: Origins It’s described as “a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving teen group and their very special dog. During their last summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne become embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lost, lonely Great Dane puppy who may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” the log says. “Together with the down-to-earth, sci-fi town, Velma, and the strange, but very handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that drags each of them into a frightening nightmare that threatens to expose all their secrets.”
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are the showrunners of the Warner Bros. TV series. They will executive produce alongside non-writers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Lee London Redman, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Adrian Erickson, and Toby Haynes, who also directed the first episode.
