Spring awakening He returns to New York.

The Stephen Satter and Duncan Sheik musical will be revived Off-Broadway this fall at Studio Seaview. Dania Taymor, who won a Tony Award for her direction strangers, will direct. The production has not yet announced any casting and plans to hold open call auditions in July.

Celia Rolison-Hall, who has worked on music videos and short films, will choreograph the revival, which will feature musical supervision by Or Matthias.

The musical, which includes a rock score, is based on an 1891 play by Frank Wedekind, which follows a group of teenagers in 19th-century Germany who discover their sexuality and rebel against the strict rules set by their parents.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 2006 and helped launch the careers of Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and John Gallagher Jr., before embarking on a run in London’s West End. He returns to New York after the 2015 revival of Deaf West Broadway, which featured an ensemble cast of deaf and hearing actors. Groff, Michele and several other original cast members held a one-night concert in 2021, then performed a number at the 2022 Tony Awards to celebrate the musical’s 15th anniversary.

The original production won eight Tony Awards at the 2007 ceremony, including Best Musical, Direction, Book and Original Score. Michael Mayer, who directed Chess On Broadway this season, he was the original director of the Broadway musical.
