The complainant, Abhijit Das, also known as Bobby, was filed by the BJP against Banerjee from Diamond Harbor in the 2014 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He lost to Banerjee by about 710,930 votes in 2024.

“We were attacked on 21 December 2018 on our way to attend a party meeting at Kabat Haat in Diamond Harbor by thugs supported by Abhishek Banerjee. I was beaten so badly that I cannot walk properly now and need some help. We called the police then. Three to four days after the incident, I filed a complaint with the police. In 2023, I led a demonstration to know what action has been taken in this case, but I did not I received absolutely nothing and it said “satisfactory information”.

TMC leaders have not yet responded to Hizb ut-Tahrir’s request for comment.

“We have received a complaint. An FIR has been registered. The investigation is ongoing,” a police officer in Diamond Harbor police area in South 24 Parganas said.

While Banerjee is the main accused in the complaint, there are 40 other names who work for TMC, including Jehangir Khan.

Khan had close links with Banerjee and was fielded by the TMC from Falta. The police arrested him in connection with an extortion case. He withdrew from running in the Assembly elections.

This comes as the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) summoned Banerjee three times in the signature forgery case and searched TMC’s central office at 30B Harish Chatterjee Street and Banerjee’s office on Kamak Street in Kolkata.

Banerjee, along with TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, went to Delhi on Saturday to attend the India bloc meeting on Monday.
