The Union Cabinet on Wednesday issued a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he became India’s longest serving and continuously elected Prime Minister.

According to the government, Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days as prime minister-elect on June 10, surpassing Nehru’s record of 4,398 consecutive days in office between 1952 and 1964.
The Cabinet, which received the Prime Minister with a standing ovation, noted that the achievement comes at a time when the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government completes 12 years in power under Modi’s leadership.
“Nehru ji came from a political background and a political family. The mood of the country was different at that time and India had just gained independence from the British. Today, those who question India’s democracy, both in India and abroad, should know that our democracy has matured and has a democratic consciousness. They have the power to choose a leader who has no political background and has reached here through hard work and dedication,” Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnau said at a Cabinet press conference.
The resolution, which was shared with the media, highlighted several welfare schemes and policy initiatives taken since Modi took office in 2014. The Cabinet said that “more than 25 crore people have been able to overcome poverty” during this period and noted the distribution of free ration to over 800 million people and health insurance coverage of up to $5 lakh to more than 600 million beneficiaries.
On women-centric policies, the resolution cited schemes like Ujjwala, PM Awas Yojana, Lakhpati Didi, and the law providing 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. For farmers, she cited Prime Minister Kisan, higher minimum support prices, irrigation projects, and growth in agricultural exports. India has become the third largest startup ecosystem in the world, she said, and lauded programs like Startup India, Skill India and the Chandrayaan moon missions.
The Cabinet also lauded several key decisions taken by the Modi government, including the virtual abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST), First Class Pension (OROP), Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), criminal law reforms and unification of labor law.
On national security, the resolution credited Modi’s leadership in actions such as the 2016 surgical strikes, the 2019 Balakot airstrike, and the recent Operation Sindoor.
The decision stated that “the Prime Minister gave a new dimension to national security,” adding that “the credit for taking strict measures against terrorism goes entirely to his leadership.” The Cabinet also welcomed the government’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, saying: “Now India’s water will be beneficial to farmers in India.”
India’s global influence has increased under Modi’s leadership, the resolution said, citing the country’s G20 presidency, promotion of International Yoga Day, and initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance. He also highlighted infrastructure projects including the New Parliament Building, Kartavia Path and Kartavia Bhawan as symbols of ‘New India’ and a symbol of abandoning the colonial mentality.
In its formal resolution, the Union Cabinet congratulated Modi on the achievement, expressed appreciation for his “relentless hard work” in serving the nation, and supported his vision of building Vixit Bharat. [developed India] He wished him “good health and a long life.”
“The Union Cabinet expresses confidence that under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India will continue to scale new heights as a self-reliant, secure, prosperous and proud nation, and will strengthen the path towards becoming a developed nation by 2047,” the resolution said.
