Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay arrived in Delhi on Wednesday where he was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour. He is likely to attend the Niti Aayog board meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled for Thursday, people aware of the developments said.
The Prime Minister was received by Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar and senior government officials at Tamil Nadu Bhavan.
This is his second visit to the national capital after he met Prime Minister Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on May 27.
During his brief interaction with Prime Minister Modi and Foreign Minister Sitharaman, the Prime Minister took up several issues related to Tamil Nadu demanding the Prime Minister’s intervention on the proposed construction of a dam across the Cauvery river in Mekkedatu by the Karnataka government, release of Tamil fishermen arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy among others.

During his meeting with Sitharaman, Vijay requested that Tamil Nadu be given priority in allocating funds for key sectors like ports, highways, railway projects and industrial corridors.
Meanwhile, senior politician and minister K Sengottaiyan said that CM Vijay is likely to raise important issues related to the state in the Niti Aayog meeting.
“He will talk about the relief and welfare work that should be carried out in all departments in Tamil Nadu and how the central government should allocate funds,” he told the media.
CM Vijay, who is expected to return on June 12, is likely to meet the party’s top leadership, including party leader Sonia Gandhi, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress formed an alliance after the elections with the ruling Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam Party.
Two legislators have been appointed to the Vijay government after 59 years in the southern state.
