Get the tissues out, Pixar has done it again! First reactions on Toy Story 5 The film has hit social media following the film’s world premiere at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, and the early consensus is that the prestigious animation studio has created another classic that will absolutely blow your mind.

While official critic reviews for the Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris animated film are embargoed until June 16, Disney/Pixar has allowed attendees of the premiere to issue brief reactions on social media after the screening.

Plot V toy story The film deals with the real-world concerns of parents and their children’s addiction to tablet computers, an interesting concept considering that Pixar was co-founded by the late Steve Jobs, the man who started the iPad era when he ran Apple.

In the film, now-eight-year-old Bonnie receives a nifty frog-like tablet called the LilyPad that captures all her attention. Buzz (Tim Allen), Woody (Tom Hanks), and Jesse (Joan Cusack) must race to save playtime from a malfunctioning machine.

Lilypad is voiced by Greta Lee. The voice cast also includes Conan O’Brien, Tony Hale, Craig Robinson, Shelby Rabara, Scarlett Spears, Mikal Michelle Harris, Matty Matheson, John Ratzenberger, Wallace Shawn, Blake Clark, Jeff Bergman, Anna Vucino, Annie Potts, Bonnie Hunt, Melissa Villasenor, John Hopkins, Kristen Schaal, and Ernie. Hudson, Bad Bunny, Keanu Reeves, Allie Mackie and Alan Cumming.

Pixar veteran Stanton, who directed A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo, Wall-E and Find my roledriving his first car toy story film after helping write the first four in the franchise. Harris co-directed and co-wrote the film alongside Stanton, based on a story by Stanton.

I’m very happy to say that TOY STORY 5 is a real game. That Jessie is the lead truly gives her an infectious energy, and the conflict between gaming and technology is more nuanced than expected. Furthermore, it takes a firm stance on one-on-one human communication being essential for children. pic.twitter.com/8vBcygz4Bn

Full disclosure: I’ve seen TOY STORY 5 twice now and somehow I cried harder the second time 😭

When Toy Story 5 started, the woman behind me turned to her friend and said, “Are you crying already?”
“Yes!” Her friend answered.
I can confirm that a lot of tears were shed by them…and everything.

#ToyStory5 is about friendship, loyalty, and the feeling of having someone in your corner when the world around you changes.

The emotions run deep, but the humor is high as Smarty Pants and Forky bring some of the biggest laughs in the film.

We can’t wait to see him again! pic.twitter.com/DTVb3hEC0X

#ToyStory5 proves that this franchise still has a lot of emotional territory to explore. Timely and surprisingly sharp in its take on our relationship with technology. Joan Cusack provides outstanding voice work. Fair warning that you will want to break your child’s tablets. pic.twitter.com/58b3oXyWOE

Toy Story 5 is pure, magical perfection. It’s a great entry into the franchise. Jessie finally gets the story she deserves! It’s emotional, funny, really warm, and perfect in every way. #ToyStory5 is a Jesse movie, which is exactly what the franchise needed. Joan Cusack breaks your heart wide when a singing cowgirl rediscovers her purpose. It is full of laughter and offers some emotional and happy tears. pic.twitter.com/dTZG3wS6xR

#ToyStory5 from Pixar is a generation-defining experience and exactly the story we need right now. @Pixar once again delivers a meaningful, poignant, and must-see film. Conan as Smarty Pants is an all-time great TS character. This is Jesse’s story, and our sheriff shines. pic.twitter.com/nLEPu0cQvL

#ToyStory5 is a bit disjointed at first as it builds up several different story lines, but they ultimately end up with a tremendous third act filled with all the heart and humor you’d expect from Pixar. Top class stuff. I laughed, I cried, I loved it. pic.twitter.com/jqS9HrUhui

Toy Story 5 hit me in places I wasn’t prepared for! Exploring the gap between technology and gaming through Jesse results in a deep and moving story that brought me to tears. I put it up there with Toy Story 2 and 3. It *is* excellent! #ToyStory5 pic.twitter.com/8dDICz8kdO

TOY STORY 5 is @Pixar at its best and most important story yet! Jessie takes center stage and Taylor Swift’s track hits hard. A thoughtful look at the balance between technology and gaming, with Conan O’Brien’s smart pants stealing every scene. New classic Pixar game! pic.twitter.com/nEz9FgVq8c

Without a doubt, #ToyStory5 is the best in the saga. Jessie is the beating heart of the story, it’s beautifully done, and her new song by Taylor Swift elevates her story to new heights. It is an absolute must-watch for adults, parents or not. A joy for children. Welcome back, Pixar! pic.twitter.com/exsZx4nK8E

#ToyStory5 shocks you with a story centered around Jesse. It’s not actually the games versus technology that is advertised, which is refreshing. Every time you think this franchise is over, it finds new ways to justify continuing. Way to go Pixar! pic.twitter.com/pgs1ppcBvk
