Residents of North Bengal and the Northeast felt tremors after a strong earthquake struck Bhutan on Sunday evening.
According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Bhutan at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) at around 11:06 p.m.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Punakha district of Bhutan, north of West Bengal. Tremors were felt across northern Bengal, parts of the northeast and Bangladesh.
Many netizens took to social media to report the tremors in the area. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The latest tremors come hours after a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan at a depth of 160 kilometers, according to the National Seismological Center.
