A medical emergency at a concert in Mumbai’s Worli has led to the death of a 28-year-old attendee. One audience member collapsed midway during live music and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, news agency ANI reported on Sunday. In a separate incident during the same concert, a 31-year-old woman also fell during the concert, leaving her in need of urgent medical attention.

An accidental death report (ADR) was registered on Saturday at Tardeo police station “in connection with the death of a 28-year-old man, who was brought dead to Breach Candy Hospital,” Mumbai Police said.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased attended a concert held at NSCI Dome Worli,” the agency quoted the police as saying.

The man “is said to have suffered a medical emergency,” police said, adding that he was transported by ambulance from the concert venue to British Candy Hospital, where his condition was declared.

After the woman complained of feeling ill, she was taken to Jaslok Hospital to receive medical treatment.

Police are examining CCTV footage and electronic devices

Police said they were examining footage recorded by the event’s surveillance cameras and other electronic devices. They also said that no drug use was detected during the initial investigation.

“According to the investigation you mentioned, she consumed alcohol and energy drinks during that period,” police said regarding the woman, saying she received the necessary medical care and is currently in stable condition.

The incident comes months after the death of two college students in Mumbai during a concert. However, the two students reportedly consumed the popular drug ‘Ecstasy’ at the party held at the NESCO Exhibition Center in Goregaon. A third student was also taken to the hospital. Following the incident, the drug peddler who supplied the three students with drugs was arrested, according to an earlier HT report.

The students, who were in the audience during the concert held in April earlier this year, had difficulty breathing and later collapsed due to dizziness, and were taken to hospital by a friend. A third person who attended the show with them also suffered from dizziness and cramps in the extremities. While two of them died during treatment, the third was in critical condition but survived. Since then, a total of six people have been taken into police custody, with organizers also being questioned over inadequate drug checks.
