“The BJP government does not believe in violence; in fact, people defeated the TMC precisely because they opposed such violence… We do not condone violence of any kind… For fifteen years, they have humiliated people, plundered public funds, and have done nothing but encourage infiltration and work for the infiltrators. Naturally, the people of West Bengal are angry, and in many places, I see them expressing this anger. I think the path of violence is not appropriate. TMC egg accidents

The incitement incidents involving TMC leaders began after the party lost the 2026 Bengal assembly elections to the BJP over a month ago. This happened for the first time when senior TMC leader and Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy was outside Nimta police station, which is also located in North 24 Parganas district, on May 28.

Two days later, eggs were also thrown at TMC general secretary and former chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, in Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas. Banerjee was visiting the district to meet the families of TMC workers who were allegedly targeted in the post-election violence in the wake of the state assembly elections. A large crowd broke through the security cordon he had imposed around him, tore off his shirt, and pelted him with raw eggs and even bricks.
