Veteran actor Lalit Barimu has advised child stars like Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday and Shanaya Kapoor to focus on learning acting rather than relying on their family name. During an appearance on Siddharth Kannan’s show, Lalit was asked what he would say to child stars like Jhanvi, Ananya and Shanaya, given the criticism they regularly face for their acting. The actor kept his response simple and direct, saying that the best thing they can do is focus on honing their craft and learning the art of acting.
He said: “Look for acting. Thoda sa jhuk ke, 2-3 sal acting, look for laga lo.
Let’s talk about what happens next to me and what’s wrong with me if I don’t know what to do if I don’t like this. Woh tab aata hai jab aap mein arthik kamiyan ho (Learn acting. Spend two or three years working hard and learning the craft properly. But the problem is that if you come from a large and influential family, the drive to learn is often not there. This hunger usually comes when you face difficulties and financial constraints).”
Explaining this point, Lalit emphasized that acting is an art form at its core and cannot be treated as a business from the beginning. He acknowledged that in today’s world, people can learn to stay relevant through social media presence, fashion choices and physical appearance, but stressed that none of that can replace the need for a representative to nurture and develop the artist within. He also frankly admitted that he did not keep a close eye on the work of many young actors, adding that he still prefers to go back to the classics and watch the timeless performances of legendary stars like Dilip Kumar and Rajesh Khanna.
