India on Friday attacked Pakistan for its reference to Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations, reminding it that being part of the global body is a matter of great responsibility and it is not a forum to spread “biased and false narratives”.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Parvathanini Harish said on Friday that he was forced to respond to Pakistan because of the country’s “unwarranted reference to a matter that is entirely internal to India.”

“Pakistan’s unwarranted reference to a completely internal matter of India, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, has forced me to react. Pakistan has decided not to spare this forum as well as their misuse of the august platforms of the United Nations to advance their contentious political interests,” Harish said, according to PTI.
He added: “Pakistan’s misuse of its presence in the Security Council, including through the circulation of numerous false and misleading communications, also bears witness to this counterproductive approach. I would like to remind Pakistan that being a member of the UN Security Council is a great responsibility. It is not a forum to promote biased and false narratives.”
Harish’s response came after Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during his remarks on Friday at the UN General Assembly on the ‘Annual Report of the Security Council’.
During his statements, the Indian envoy made it clear that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and will remain so. He added, “Empty rhetoric and hollow claims by Pakistan will not change this basic reality. In the interest of time for the wider UN membership, I will not delve into this matter any further.”
